National Human Rights Consultation Submission AGWW-7RD7DD Name: Lilian Falzon Submission Text: I endorse a Charter of Rights to encompass "Freedom of Choice" The latter applies to religious freedom(including the right of athiests),freedom of expression, race and sex/sexual discrimination, age and disability discrimination. The right to education, health, housing, privacy, freedom for economic, social & cultural rights assembley & association, and children's rights are sacred to the Aussie culture. I strongly support the "Right of Choice" for a woman regarding abortion or for the elderly should euthanasia be a final choice. Religious beliefs regarding such matters is up to the individual believer and should not become political and restrict the option of choice to our mainstream community. Concern arises when in the name of 'National Security and Terrorism' existing laws are hurriedly amended or new laws passed which curb the rights of an individual or treatment of people who are detained. Let Australia have its own policies and it may be wise to recognise the scaremongering which goes on in US due to the country's politics. These rights need to be put in place especially for minority groups, whether they be the indigineous people, the migrants, the elderly, the gay, the homeless. It is vital that justice is accessible to everyone. Page 1 of 1
