National Human Rights Consultation Submission AGWW-7Q9U3T Name: Brad Gould Submission Text: Hi, I firmly believe that Australia should ratify, into law (and preferably the Constitution), the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Particularly, in the current Australian climate, Article 19 (freedom of opinion and expression) and Article 9 (arbitrary arrest, detention or exile). Its still remarkably applicable to all nations, not only Australia, which I think demonstrates its fitness to its purpose, which has stood the test of time - 60 years. The Australian Government has already voted, in the UN for its adoption, and I think there would be wide spread support in the electorate to ratify something Australia has supported internationally for 60 years. It should be an easy sell (unlike the Republic debacle). I'm a little surprised that there isnt seemingly any focus of the National Human Rights Consultation process on political rights and fair and free representation thereof. Time I think has proved that the political process... "democracy"... is being subjugated to whomever has the largest bank balance. True, "will of the people" democracy is becoming a thing of the past. Sincerely, Brad Gould Page 1 of 1
